Just ordering parts for a new system, so I am curious what everyone is running as far as CPU, Video, memory, and Hard drive setups.

How well do they run your games?

What would you change?

Just updated this to 6 GB DDR3 1600 Tri-channel (3 2GB sticks)

Learned a lesson with the memory upgrade...

Installed the memory, everything seemed to run fine for a while, until I alt-escaped out of the game window to open/access the RCon, at which time I got the good ol' BSOD... wait, BSOD isn't supposed to happen on Windows 7 is it?   Mad

Anyway, got the BSOD 3 or 4 times over a few days, ran a virus scan, found 11 infected files but nothing system threatening.  Ran memtest, it said I had some bad memory.  Returned memory for even exchange, got it back home, installed in my rig, booted up, and as soon as I typed in my login password and hit enter, BSOD again.  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad

Ran memtest, it said I had bad RAM again... two bad sets in a row?  Crying or Very sad  Can't be.  Removed 2 sticks, leaving one in the number 1 slot, ran memtest, it passed.  Very Happy  Replaced first stick with 2nd stick, same slot, it passed.  Very Happy  Very Happy   Replaced 2nd stick with 3rd stick, it passed... Very Happy  Very Happy  had and epiphany Idea ... I have been running this rig for about 8 months now, with only 2 sticks installed, other two slots vacant... maybe there is dust in the third slot. Rolling Eyes

Break out the canned air.  Hosed the board down with canned air, paying special attention to the memory slots.  Reinstalled all three sticks, ran memtest, it passed.  Tested for about an hour with game and RCon running, no issues, no BSOD. Very Happy  Very Happy  Very Happy

Moral of the story?  Make sure and blow out the slot before you put the stick in  Laughing

Yeah as old as my wife is getting I sometimes have to use a mask.

When we get into our fantasy roles it goes something like this:

Kirk(me of course): Bones! Buckle up!

Scotty(my wife does a great Scottish charachter - I love it when she calls me an Arse-cockle): I like this ship! You know, it's exciting!

Christopher Pike(me): Prepare to fire all weapons!

Scotty(wife):  I'm giving her all she's got, Captain!

Kirk(me): All she's got isn't good enough!

Uhura (wife): I'm impressed. For a moment there, I thought you were just a dumb hick who only has sex with farm animals.

Kirk(me): Well, not only.

(upon penalty of death, do not tell my wife I shared this with you) Laughing  Laughing  Laughing
