so, i might just be able to upgrade my computer so i can keep up with some of these new games. while i'd like to go with the ASUS Rampage V Extreme mobo, i wouldn't be able to afford everything else that i'd need to go with it. so, it looks like i CAN go with an i5 LGA 1150 with processor. the memory and video and sound i already have can be transferred over. i'd also like to add a SSD for all my games. i'm just not sure which mobo or ssd to go with. looked on newegg, and this is what i have so far.

mobo:

cpu:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117302&ignorebbr=1

while i'd like to get the ssd right away, i can hold off on it. (and maybe some new vid cards):

w/o the drive, im looking at about $350. if you guys suggest something better for my money that would be cheaper, that would be awesome. then maybe i could get the ssd at the same time

thanks y'all for any input and suggestions.

oh, also, would i need a more powerful powersupply. i have a 600w now.

Also  (correct me if I am wrong)  but isn't this motherboard below a NEWER version and Cheaper?

You sure you want to stick to a socket that is 2 generations behind and is in end of life? I know getting anything in LGA-1151 will cost over $530 because you will need a i5 6th generation processor (Running @ 3.2Ghz to compare to your selection), motherboard, and DDR4 RAM. One thing to note about generation to generation, you gain an extra 5% to overall speed. Since the selection you have is 2 generations back it is 10% slower than an i5-6500 @ 3.2Ghz in LGA-1151

Wait on the next Gen video cards to hit in a few months. No need to buy anything right now. Prices on old products will go down and the new hardware will be much faster with the introduction of GDDR5X and HBM2.0 RAM for video cards. There is a dye shrink as well so not only faster RAM but on top of it better architecture. It's going to be a good leap this year in graphic card technology. So save your money for a higher end card ($400-700). Anything lower than that wont last as long and you will be replacing it sooner.

As for the SSD, should be good. $64 for it is a good price. It's not the fastest on the market but a lot of SSD's are very similar in performance. That's the price market that a lot of people can afford and for $64, perfect!

750-800 Watts if anything. With my i7-3770K and an R9 290X I maybe take up 650 on max load, I have an overkill PSU... 1050 watts, haha. With newer architecture you are looking at a lower TDP.

well, that's the thing Sticky, i don't have a great deal of money to spend on all this. if i did, i'd be getting what i really want. the ASUS Rampage V Extreme, 64gb of mem, whatever the best cpu that fits a socket 2011 v-3, 3 highend ASUS vid cards, and a great deal of storage. i have about $400 to spend. i just need it to keep me going for a little while, while i try to save for what i'd really like to get. or at least start getting. if this can tide me over and then be used as an "internet" computer, that's what i'd like to do.

and, actually, i just realized that my selected mobo doesn't have 4 usb 2.0 slots. now, while this isn't a "huge" issue, as i can plug in things in the front slots i think i can get a cheaper mobo with the 4 slots already on the back.

PCIe 2.0 can work in 3.0 but will only be  2.0 speeds , 3.0 can work in 2.0 but will only run at 2.0 speeds.

What do you have for a Video Card?

so, got the parts in today. put it all together. turned it on and it took FOREVER to boot up. but, now i'm having problems with everything. it's not recognizing my wired mouse, but is recognizing my wireless trackball. doesnt see my sound or video card. doesnt recognize the network adapter. it's not reading the disc in my ROM drive. i'm close to returning back to the other mobo but, im gonna see if i can cannibalize a ROM drive from my dad and see if i can install the network driver from the disc and then try reinstalling everything else.

see if there is a new bios out first and see if that helps

When asked "What do you feel when you snipe someone in the head?"
I shrugged and replied "Recoil"

so, i think my harddrive is starting to fail. which means, i'll have to buy a new one sooner than planned. a couple of guys at work suggested hybrid drives (sshd's) does anyone here know anything about them? would i be better off getting a ssd? i know ive spoken to a couple of you about the ssd's, but i don't know which is best for my needs.

Don't do it. SSHD's are not worth it. Get a HDD and then get a SSD down the line.
