Sweet. Thanks guys.

Next time I pay myself, I think I deserve a new GFX card as a treat... and a pair of new monitors too.

I made it in later that night. I'm blaming steam because I made no software or hardware changes at all between normal play and crashing. I didn't even reboot.

Steam? Big pile of Steaming something I know that.

Folks,

Looks like I can't play Black Ops anymore.

The game starts, fetches my stats and what-not then I click on "Server Browser". It takes me to an empty list then, bam, it freezes up on me. The list doesn't populate or anything, jsut freezes and the only way out is to CTRL+ALT+DEL and then Task Manager tells me Black Ops is Not Responding.

When I try again, the Balck Ops login spins for 30 seconds until finally telling me that Black Ops servers are unavailable and to check their Status page.

Then try again and it's back to square one, Server Browser Crash.

Not happy at all.

PostForum: Tech Talk   Posted: Thu Dec 23, 2010 1:33 pm   Subject: Re: Do I need a CrossFireX Bridge
So, here's the latest.

The 5750 card supplied with the NEW pc does not have CrossfireX Ports. (Pics below and here's the manufacturers page http://powercolor.com/us/products_features.asp?id=270) However, Crossfire is running, but with Software Support rather than physical connection via the hardware. They will not be getting any more 5750's with ports on so offered a refund, but that means sending it back, waiting for payment then buying a new card and waiting for that to arrive.

From what I have read in forums and what the support guy said, I am only losing a small amount by Software Support.

As these cards really are just to keep me going until I can buy either a single much better card or a couple of, say, 5870's I'm not going to make a fuss. These cards are already giving me smooth performance in Black Ops at 1920 x 1200 with most everything turned up to maximum so yippee.

However, when I do get new cards, I'll get identical ones *with* the ports so I can bridge them.

Shoot ya later,

Dee

Folks,

I put a second 5750 card in my new rig and hey presto, the system recognised and installed it no problem and the "Crossfire" option now appears in my ATI Control Centre and is showing enabled.

Thing is, I am now a bit confused. Do I need a CrossFireX Bridge cable or not?

Dee

P.S. Usual apology for being a bit dim.

Guys,

G35 headsets are real expensive over here in the UK. Best price I see is around in a store I trust is equivalent of $136.50.

Can someone suggest a good US Retailer where I might get one and either have it shipped to as US address and have it sent on or that ships to England? I've heard NewEgg mentioned a lot. Are they good?

I used to have only one jack for speakers, so I used a splitter so I could plug them both in at the same time. It's a 2 dollar item that I'm sure Radio Shack will have.

Great post. Thanks for sharing.

So, finally, after talking and talking and talking about it, I finally have my new PC.

The headline details are:
Coolermaster HAF 922 Mid Tower Gaming Case
Intel i5-760 Quad-Core CPU - 8Mb Cache + Turbo Boost
4GB DDR3 1600MHz
1 brand new ATI Radeon 5750
1 recycled from my old machine ATI Radeon 5750
640 Gb WD Caviar Black Sata 6 Gb/s, 64MB Cache (7200rpm)
1TB Gb WD Caviar Black Sata 6 Gb/s, 64MB Cache (7200rpm) (for music and pictures etc)
Corsair TX850 850W PSU
Titan Fenrir Evo Extreme Heatpipe CP Cooler
On-board 5.1 Sound
Windows 7 Home Premium

All that gives me just about enough processing power to calculate the costs of Bravey's new rig...  Very Happy

And here's what it looks like...

Well, back when I played Raven Shield on a different gaming community that I used to belong to, we always insisted that everyone except us remove their Clan Tags. I don't think we need do that here, but I can see their point of view.
